Game Review (Detail): Simply Suspects was created by the folks who brought us "Spy Alley," but this is a weak attempt to make another game which matches the original. It doesn't work. The problem is that the gamemakers have taken a simple, winning formula and tried to make it more complex than it should be. I wouldn't be surprised if many folks open the instruction book and give it up right there! The instructions explain squares on the board, for example, which are completely self-explanatory -- such as "Trade Places with Any Player" -- but you feel you have to read everything before you can start the game, and at least, for my children, it dampened their enthusiasm for playing the game, and cluttered their minds with unnecessary information. The game itself isn't too difficult, once you figure it out; but we have yet to play a game where we went around the board more than once. Maybe this is the way the game is supposed to go; in a way it's the one good thing I can say about the game -- it's very short, usually only 10-15 minutes. On the other hand, for all the time it took us to get going and start playing, the game felt disappointingly short. As my kids said, "Is that IT!?"
